Bhubaneswar’s mystery of the missing traffic constable, Shubhamitra Sahu, has taken a dramatic turn. Twelve days after her disappearance, the Commissionerate Police detained a clerk from the Twin City Police Commissioner’s Office for questioning.
Key Suspect Detained
The detained clerk has been identified as Deepak Rout, who has now become the prime suspect in the case. Fresh leads and a formal complaint filed by Shubhamitra’s father prompted police action.
According to sources, CCTV footage and toll gate records reportedly confirmed that Rout was driving a car in which Shubhamitra was seated, heading towards Tarini Temple in Keonjhar. OTV has also accessed a photograph of the car, further strengthening suspicions.
Family members had earlier raised concerns about Rout’s possible involvement and urged police to question him. It was also revealed that Rout had remained absent from duty for two days after Shubhamitra’s disappearance before quietly resuming work.
Missing Since September 6
Shubhamitra, a native of Paradip and posted with Bhubaneswar Traffic Police, went missing on September 6 after completing her duty in the Suryanagar area under Capital police limits. When she failed to return home that night, her mother filed a missing complaint.
Despite extensive search operations, Shubhamitra remains untraceable. Commissionerate Police had released her photograph on social media and announced a Rs 25,000 cash reward for credible information about her whereabouts.
Senior officers, including the ACP and IIC, have been monitoring the investigation closely. As of now, Commissionerate Police have not issued any official statement on Rout’s detention.
