India on Sunday strongly condemned the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, describing the incident as “deeply worrisome” and calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is closely monitoring the situation while India’s Embassy in Oman is coordinating with local authorities during the ongoing search and rescue operation.

MEA Calls for Peace and Safe Maritime Navigation

In an official statement, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India condemned the attack on the commercial vessel and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian nationals.

“Our Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation,” the statement said.

The ministry expressed concern over repeated attacks on commercial shipping, stating that such incidents threaten regional peace and maritime security.

India also reiterated its call for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and urged all parties to pursue a diplomatic solution to restore stability in the region.

India Seeks Protection of Commercial Shipping

The MEA called for an end to attacks targeting commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure and stressed the importance of ensuring free and unhindered navigation through international waterways.

The statement underscored that uninterrupted maritime trade is essential for regional and global commerce.

10 Indians Rescued, Search Continues for One Missing Crew Member

According to the MEA, 11 Indian nationals were on board the GFS Galaxy when the attack occurred.

Authorities have rescued 10 Indian crew members, while search operations are continuing for one missing individual.

India’s Embassy in Oman remains in contact with local authorities as rescue efforts continue.

US Announces Retaliatory Strikes

According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), the Cyprus-flagged GFS Galaxy was allegedly attacked by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM said the attack caused significant damage, including an engine room fire, and confirmed that one civilian crew member remained missing.

The United States subsequently announced retaliatory military strikes against Iranian targets, further escalating tensions in the region.

The latest incident has renewed international concern over the safety of commercial shipping through one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.
