The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that banks across the country will observe 15 holidays in September 2025. These include national and regional festivals, along with regular weekend closures, as per the Negotiable Instruments Act and RTGS schedules.

The September holiday calendar features major observances like Onam, Durga Puja, and Milad un-Nabi, in addition to all Sundays, the second Saturday, and the fourth Saturday.

Impact on Customers

With branches closed on these dates, in-person services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, and document-related tasks may face disruption. Customers are advised to plan visits accordingly and check the official list of closures before scheduling branch-dependent activities.

Services That Will Continue

Even during branch holidays, digital and self-service channels will remain functional, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential banking services like:

  • Internet and mobile banking for fund transfers, bill payments, and balance checks

  • NEFT and RTGS transactions during their operational hours

  • ATM withdrawals and card-based payments

  • Online applications for chequebooks, drafts, and account services

Key Bank Holidays in September 2025

  • Sep 3 (Wed): Karma Puja – Ranchi

  • Sep 4 (Thu): Onam – Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram

  • Sep 5 (Fri): Id-e-Milad / Thiruvonam – Multiple cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad

  • Sep 6 (Sat): Indrajatra / Id-e-Milad – Gangtok, Jammu, Raipur, Srinagar

  • Sep 13 (Sat): Second Saturday – Nationwide

  • Sep 22 (Mon): Navratra Sthapna – Jaipur

  • Sep 23 (Tue): Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji – Agartala, Guwahati, Kolkata

  • Sep 27 (Sat): Fourth Saturday – Nationwide

  • Sep 29 (Mon): Maha Saptami / Durga Puja – Eastern states

  • Sep 30 (Tue): Maha Ashtami / Durga Ashtami – Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Patna, Jaipur

Plan Ahead

The RBI has urged customers to rely on digital banking facilities to avoid inconvenience. With internet banking, mobile apps, and ATMs operational, most essential services are expected to remain unaffected despite branch closures.
