A bauxite-laden tanker lost balance and fell off an overbridge in Rayagada, causing a major accident on Sunday.
The vehicle, travelling from Koraput to Jharsuguda, plunged 30 feet below after the driver attempted to avoid a collision with a scooter approaching from the opposite direction.
The driver sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Two local fish vendors, who were present under the bridge at the time, suffered minor injuries.
Police arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation. The incident drew a large crowd as locals gathered to witness the aftermath. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and assessing safety measures for heavy vehicles in the area.
