A 62-year-old man was killed following a violent clash between two groups in Karadapalli village under Fategarh police station in Nayagarh district on Sunday night during Ganesh Visarjan celebrations.
The deceased, Harihar Swain, reportedly tried to intervene when a scuffle broke out between youths from Pathapur village—who were celebrating with a DJ—and locals from Karadapalli. Swain was attacked during the altercation and collapsed at the scene. He was rushed to Bhapur Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead.
Following the incident, villagers staged a protest by blocking the road with Swain’s body, demanding immediate arrests. The blockade was lifted after the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) assured swift action. Police have since taken the DJ vehicle and its driver into custody, and a search is underway for other accused individuals.
Law enforcement has deployed personnel in both villages to maintain order, and an investigation is ongoing.
