The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal crossed the south Odisha coast close to Gopalpur early Tuesday morning.
The system, moving north-northwestwards at a speed of 7 kmph during the past six hours, was centred near latitude 19.3°N and longitude 84.8°E at 0530 hours IST today, lying just west of Gopalpur.
According to IMD, the depression is expected to continue moving northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh, and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next six hours.
