Defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, along with world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, have powered into the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open, overcoming weather disruptions and resilient opponents in a thrilling day of tennis.

Sinner extended his hardcourt winning streak to 24 matches, defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) despite a three-hour rain delay. “It was a struggle to close it out, but I’m happy to be in the quarter-finals,” Sinner said.

Sabalenka showed renewed form, dispatching Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-1, 7-5. “I didn’t want to stay for three hours again,” she quipped, referencing her previous marathon match.

Carlos Alcaraz breezed past lucky loser Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4, recovering from a 2-4 deficit in the second set. “This match was my best so far,” Alcaraz said, expressing satisfaction with his rhythm and movement.

The day’s biggest upset came from French qualifier Terence Atmane, who stunned fourth seed Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. “I can’t believe this. I was shaking,” said the 136th-ranked Atmane.

Other notable results included Alexander Zverev’s double victory, Holger Rune’s advancement due to Frances Tiafoe’s retirement, and Elena Rybakina’s comeback win over Madison Keys.

With quarter-final matchups now set, fans can expect high-octane clashes including Alcaraz vs. Rublev and Sabalenka vs. Rybakina.
