Bhubaneswar: Over 2000 cases of cyber fraud have been reported from different parts of Odisha in the last six months, informed Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda on Thursday.
As many as 2,394 cyber fraud cases have been reported in several police stations between January and June, this year, with the fraud amount rising to over Rs 36 crore.
Police have managed to freeze Rs 9.5 crore and returned Rs 46 lakh to the victims while the other victims are waiting for their money to be recovered.
As per the CP, most of the cyber fraud cases have occurred through UPI fraud, social media, parcel delivery, credit card delivery, and sending messages about SIM KYC.
Till now, the Commissionerate Police have managed to arrest 21 cyber fraudsters and produced them before court. 5 of them are members of inter-state cyber frauds, said Panda.
