The fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford kicked off with a compelling display of resilience as India reached 264/4 at stumps on Day 1.

Debutant Sai Sudharsan stole the spotlight with an impressive 61, anchoring the innings alongside an unbeaten 19* from Shardul Thakur, while England’s Ben Stokes picked up 2/47. The match, unfolding under the shadow of England’s aggressive “Bazball” strategy, promises an enthralling contest as both teams vie for dominance.

Sudharsan, a stylish left-handed batsman from Tamil Nadu, marked a historic moment as the first player from his state to debut in an overseas Test.

The day’s play saw India recover from early setbacks, scoring 115 runs in the final session. However, the narrative took a dramatic turn with Rishabh Pant’s injury concern. The wicketkeeper-batsman, a key figure in India’s middle order, walked off after a blow to his left index finger, leaving his Day 2 participation in doubt.

The BCCI confirmed Pant is under medical supervision, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in as a temporary replacement. Pant’s past heroics, including a gutsy 89 in the 2022 Edgbaston Test post-accident, keep fans hopeful for his return.

England, riding high on their “Bazball” approach, aimed to unsettle India early. Despite Stokes’ efforts, India’s lower-order resilience, led by Thakur, ensured a solid foundation. With two reviews remaining for each side, the tactical battle is set to intensify on Day 2.

As the series hangs in the balance, Sudharsan’s debut and Pant’s fitness will be critical. Fans can expect a thrilling continuation tomorrow. For now, India holds the slight edge, but England’s relentless style keeps the outcome unpredictable.
