In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across Delhi, a 42-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son were found murdered in their home in Block F of Lajpat Nagar-I on Thursday night.
Police have arrested 24-year-old Mukesh Paswan, a helper employed at the garment shop owned by the victims’ family, for committing the double murder.
The victims, Ruchika Sewani and her son Krish, were discovered with their throats slit inside their residence. According to investigators, Paswan confessed to the gruesome crime, stating that he killed Ruchika after she allegedly yelled at and humiliated him earlier that day.
A senior police officer described the scene as “blood-soaked,” revealing that Ruchika’s body was found in a bedroom next to the bed, while Krish’s body was discovered in the bathroom, where he had reportedly tried to hide after witnessing his mother’s murder.
The horrific sequence unfolded on Wednesday evening. CCTV footage confirmed that Paswan entered the Sewani home around 7:30 PM, while Ruchika and Krish were alone at home. Ruchika’s husband, Kuldeep Sewani, was away at the time.
Police say Paswan first attacked Ruchika in the bedroom. Krish, who saw the murder, fled to the bathroom. Around 8:00 PM, Paswan allegedly tracked the boy down and killed him as well.
When Kuldeep returned home at approximately 9:30 PM, he noticed bloodstains on the staircase. Unable to reach his wife, he alerted the police. Officers arrived shortly after and uncovered the tragic crime scene around 10:00 PM.
Kuldeep told police that he had last spoken to Ruchika at 7:15 PM, and everything appeared normal at the time. Paswan was arrested soon after and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Police are probing deeper into the motive and Paswan’s mental state, while locals remain shaken by the brutality of the murders.
