In a shocking incident in Hatintola Basti, under the “A” Block of Jalda, South Rourkela, a man, Raisingh Munda (37), allegedly killed his wife, Sabita Munda, over a dispute involving Rs 500.
The tragic event unfolded late Friday night during the Rath Yatra festival, casting a dark shadow over the celebrations.
According to reports, Sabita took Rs 500 from home to attend the Rath Yatra without informing her husband. When Raisingh returned from work and found his wife absent, he confronted her upon her return around 11 PM. Learning that she had spent the money at the festival, an argument erupted.
In a fit of rage, Raisingh pushed Sabita, causing her to fall, and then struck her abdomen with a wooden stick. The assault proved fatal, and Sabita died at the scene.
Neighbours alerted the Tangarpalli police on Saturday morning. Officer Niranjana Sethi arrived promptly, arrested Raisingh, and initiated an investigation. A scientific team joined the police to examine the crime scene, where Sabita’s body remained as the probe continued.
