To bolster public safety and security across Odisha, the state government has decided to implement a federated CCTV surveillance system.

This initiative aims to install CCTV cameras in public spaces, roads, government offices, and other critical locations. The system will integrate feeds for real-time monitoring and analysis, ensuring a standardised approach to surveillance across the state.

In this regard, the Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has issued a directive to all departments.

According to Chief Secretary Ahuja, the move addresses the urgent need for enhanced security in crowded areas, streets, and key public infrastructure. The federated system will standardise CCTV installations, enabling seamless data collection and centralised monitoring. This will allow authorities to access accurate information promptly and respond effectively to incidents.

The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) will oversee the project, supported by a high-level committee comprising experts from the police, excise, and forest departments. The committee is tasked with completing the implementation within two months. Advanced equipment and dedicated control rooms will ensure efficient operation, enabling authorities to verify incident details, such as timing and involved parties, for effective district-level utilisation.

This initiative is expected to significantly improve law enforcement capabilities and public safety, making Odisha a safer place for residents and visitors alike.
