Germany’s Alexander Zverev began his campaign at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle with an emphatic 6-1, 6-2 victory over Marcos Giron.

The world No. 3 bounced back just days after his Stuttgart final loss, putting on a dominant display in front of the home crowd at OWL Arena.

Despite a tough start, Zverev quickly took control, winning seven consecutive games from 2-2 in the first set. He showcased his aggressive return game and did not face a single break point, winning 82% of his first-serve points.

“I thought it was quite a high level,” Zverev said post-match. “Maybe he wanted to play a bit better, but I didn’t let him play that well.”

The German, a two-time Halle finalist, now sets his sights on Lorenzo Sonego in the second round—an opponent he has defeated in all four of their previous encounters.

Will Zverev finally clinch his first Halle title this year? His strong start suggests he’s ready to fight for it.
