A shocking case of impersonation and fraud has surfaced in Odisha, where a conman posing as a high-ranking official from Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s office duped an engineer of Rs 2 lakh.
The accused, identified as Janaki Ballav Mohapatra, later attempted to extract an additional Rs 5 lakh, prompting the victim to lodge a complaint at the Airfield Police Station.
The victim, Pratap Kumar Haripal, a Superintending Engineer with the Kothabadi Division in Angul Road, allegedly received threats regarding a forced transfer to Malkangiri unless he complied. Succumbing to the pressure, he paid the demanded sum but refused the second request, leading to further intimidation and harassment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the case, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspect. Officials urge citizens to remain vigilant against scams involving fake government representatives.
