Mumbai: Ahead of Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League, New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has left the Rajasthan Royals squad.
He will join his national team in the UK for the upcoming Test series against England.
Mitchell will join the New Zealand squad for the practice match against First-Class Counties XI, starting May 26 in Chelmsford. Meanwhile, his compatriots Trent Boult and James Neesham will stay back with the Royals.
New Zealand and England are scheduled to play the three-Test match series between June 2-23.
In a video shared by Rajasthan Royals, Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said, “Daryl’s been with us right from the start, he’s been an exceptional part of our group. He’s done a huge amount for us in terms of energy, being the character that he is, helping out, supporting, playing, fielding, and getting to know each of us.”
“So we have asked everyone from the start to give a little bit of themselves to the group and Daryl has done an amazing job for us. We wish you very well for the series against England. There’s a practice game on 26th, we will (be) watching and supporting.”
New entrants Gujarat Titans pushed Rajasthan Royals to Qualifier 2 after beating them by seven wickets in Qualifier 1 on May 24. Jos Buttler’s 89 off 56 helped RR to post 188/6, but Titans’ David Miller (68* off 38) and Hardik Pandya (40* off 27) chased down the target with three balls to spare.
