Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal praised the Indian diaspora as “peace-loving” and law-abiding, stating that Indians are widely welcomed abroad because they refrain from vandalism and public disruption.
Speaking to members of the Indian community in Berlin during an official visit to Germany, Goyal emphasised that overseas Indians have earned global respect through their peaceful conduct, strong family values, and civic responsibility.
Goyal noted that host countries value the Indian community specifically because its members are wanted, respected, and do not cause societal disturbances.
His remarks coincided with ongoing demonstrations across several European nations—including France, Italy, and Spain—where protests over rising living costs and public services have occasionally escalated into clashes and vandalism.
In addition to highlighting the community’s positive reputation, the Minister called upon established NRIs to mentor and support Indian students arriving in Germany, particularly those from modest backgrounds navigating unfamiliar environments. Goyal lauded Indian professionals and workers as hardworking ambassadors who strengthen bilateral and economic ties.
During his trip, Goyal held discussions with German government officials and industry leaders to boost trade, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technology partnerships between the two nations.
