Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday strongly condemned an alleged incident of violence at the Satyabadi block government office in Puri district, accusing BJP workers of entering the premises and creating chaos.
In a post on X, Patnaik said the incident had disturbed the people of Odisha and firmly denounced it. He questioned why the state government was repeatedly “patronising” such anarchy, asking whether BJP workers felt emboldened to storm government offices and damage public property simply because their party was in power.

Tension gripped Satyabadi block after alleged vandalism at the office of Block Chairman Sunil Kumar Panda. According to reports, BJP workers entered the office and damaged property in reaction to Panda’s controversial remarks made earlier this week.
The remarks, delivered during a BJD meeting, went viral after Panda was accused of referring to government employees as “dogs.” The statement had already triggered strong local protests, including effigy burning and road blockades.
Patnaik linked the Satyabadi episode to a broader pattern, stating that the people of Odisha had not forgotten similar incidents since the BJP formed the government. He specifically mentioned earlier cases involving the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation office, as well as government offices in Pattamundai (Kendrapada), Athgada, and Jatani, where BJP workers were alleged to have entered and created disturbances.
“There is no place for anarchy and violence in peace-loving Odisha,” Patnaik wrote, adding that the people of the state would give a fitting reply. He also claimed that the growing lawlessness was drawing international criticism and questioned why the government appeared to be encouraging it.
Following the office vandalism, Block Chairman Sunil Kumar Panda, along with committee members, staged a dharna (sit-in) outside the premises. They demanded immediate action and the arrest of the local MLA (Om Prakash Mishra of BJP) along with other accused persons involved in the incident.
Police have reached the spot, and the situation remains tense as both sides trade allegations. Further details are awaited.
