A horrifying road accident occurred late Saturday night near the Rengali police station when a private company bus rammed into a stationary trailer from behind, leaving over 20 employees injured, with 13 reported to be in critical condition.
The incident took place around 10:00 PM on Saturday when the bus, named ‘Jai Matadi’ (Registration No: OD 15 V 3474), was carrying factory workers from Sambalpur to the Shyam Metaliks plant for their shift. According to sources, upon nearing the Rengali police station, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed head-on into the rear end of a trailer parked on the roadside.
The force of the impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed, trapping the driver inside the twisted metal driver’s cabin.
Upon receiving information about the tragedy, the Rengali police immediately rushed to the spot. Recognising the gravity of the driver’s condition, officers quickly summoned the Fire Services team. Using specialised metal cutters, firefighters successfully sliced through the destroyed front structure of the bus and rescued the severely injured driver.
With the prompt assistance of local residents, all injured workers were initially rushed to the nearby Rengali Hospital for emergency first aid. Owing to the serious nature of their injuries, 13 critically injured victims were subsequently shifted to the Krishna Vikas Hospital in Bhalubahal for advanced medical care.
Local police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
