Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released by an executive magistrate court in Delhi on Sunday, a day after Delhi Police detained them ahead of the party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar.
According to CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh, the three leaders were released on the condition that they would maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.
Advocate Soutik Banerjee also confirmed their release, saying all three leaders were free to leave.
Rs 50,000 Surety Bond Furnished
Delhi Police said the three leaders were preventively arrested on October 10 under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
They were produced before the Sub-Divisional Executive Magistrate court in Delhi Cantonment on Sunday.
Police said all required legal procedures were followed. A surety bond of Rs 50,000 was furnished to ensure peace and good behaviour for one year, after which the court ordered their release.
The three leaders had been detained shortly after their flight landed in Delhi on Saturday, according to police.
CJP Reacts to Leaders’ Release
Following the release, the CJP said on X that Delhi Police had been “forced” to release Dipke, Ranka and Das.
The party also posted the slogan, “Cockroaches never die,” in its reaction.
The CJP had planned a protest at Jantar Mantar amid its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Security Tightened Across Delhi
The detentions came amid heightened security arrangements across the national capital ahead of the planned protest.
According to police sources cited in the report, more than 7,000 protesters were detained at multiple locations to prevent them from reaching Jantar Mantar.
Several Opposition leaders were also detained while attempting to join the protest, including former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar.
More than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were reportedly planned for deployment as authorities stepped up security across Delhi.
CJP, Opposition Parties Raise SIR Concerns
The CJP and several Opposition parties have been demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The allegations remain part of an ongoing political dispute, with the Election Commission maintaining its position on the electoral-roll revision process.
The latest detention and release of the three CJP leaders adds to the growing confrontation surrounding the proposed protest and the wider political debate over electoral-roll revisions.
