Intensifying the ongoing nationwide agitation against the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) formally approached the Delhi Police on Wednesday to submit its official intimation for the massive “Dilli Chalo” protest scheduled for Oct 10 at Jantar Mantar.
Led by co-convener Saurav Das, a CJP delegation visited the Parliament Street Police Station to complete procedural formalities, submit a formal notification, and secure an acknowledgement copy.
The pressure group is pressing for sweeping institutional changes and the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
According to sources, Saurav Das asserted that the collective force of the nation’s youth—symbolically termed “cockroaches”—will gather in large numbers to demand accountability.
The friction stems from mounting public outrage over alleged procedural irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Joining forces with student organisations like the All India Students’ Association (AISA), student leaders have ramped up calls for systemic reform, urging citizens to unite for transparent democratic institutions.
CJP’s Three Non-Negotiable Demands
The pressure group has outlined three core, non-negotiable demands for the Oct 10 demonstration:
- Resignation and Prosecution: Immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar alongside the initiation of criminal proceedings.
- Electoral Roll Rollback: Freezing of the ongoing SIR process, halting upcoming elections, restoring the January 2025 voter list, and launching an independent judicial inquiry.
- Structural Overhaul: Repeal of the 2023 ECI appointments law to establish a transparent, credible, and independent selection framework.
