A written complaint has been filed at Baselisahi police station alleging that a youth and three others were assaulted and threatened with bombs after opposing an alleged liquor trade in the locality.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of October 1 in Jeevaramji Palli on Lokanath Road, under Baselisahi police limits. Residents had long been unhappy that Sushil Sethi, also known as Bhalu, and some associates were running a liquor business in the area.
The complaint states that Jitendra Behura, who had been opposing the trade, was stopped on the road and attacked. Suchitra Mohanty, Prabhakar Mohanty and Sushil Muduli, who rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion and tried to intervene, were also allegedly assaulted. The complainants further alleged that the attackers threatened to throw bombs and to kill them. Those named as victims are said to have been injured.
Local residents have also alleged that the accused youth has been avoiding legal action by producing a certificate related to his mental condition. They have demanded that the authenticity of the certificate be verified, that the incident be investigated impartially, and that strict legal action be taken against those involved.
Police have received the written complaint. No official response on arrests or the status of the inquiry was available at the time of this report.
