Seven years after businessman Balaram Sahanie went missing in 2019, Chandaka police have intensified efforts to unravel the kidnapping mystery.
Investigators recently arrested his girlfriend, Rashmita Swain, who is now being interrogated under daily remand.
Police sources revealed that Rashmita was arrested 15 days ago. A special team from Jharpada jail has joined Chandaka police in questioning her. Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena’s special squad is also assisting in the investigation.
Balaram disappeared after an alleged kidnapping in 2019. His family lodged a complaint at the Chandaka police station, but initial investigations suggested he might have left for an unknown destination. However, with no trace of him even after seven years, the case has taken a new turn.
Investigators discovered that Rashmita shared a close relationship with Balaram. Police suspect betrayal in their long-term relationship may have led to the kidnapping. As a result, Rashmita has become the prime suspect.
Officials believe that crucial details about Balaram’s disappearance remain with Rashmita. They hope that sustained interrogation during remand will help uncover the truth and solve the long-standing mystery.
