Odisha is set to experience relief from the cold wave as night temperatures are expected to rise by 2–4 degrees from today due to the impact of a western disturbance.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that mercury levels will climb across most districts, though dense fog may cause travel disruptions.

On Sunday night, coastal Odisha is likely to record minimum temperatures above 10–11°C, with Puri, Gopalpur, and Bhadrak hovering around 13–14°C. From Monday through Wednesday (January 21), most places in the state are expected to see minimum temperatures between 12–15°C.

In the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed across Odisha, though isolated cold wave conditions were reported in Angul and Jharsuguda. The lowest temperature was recorded at Udayagiri in the hilly region at 2.8°C. In the plains, Phulbani registered 5.8°C, which is 3.2°C below normal. Jharsuguda recorded 6.8°C (5.7°C below normal), Hirakud 8.5°C, while Bhubaneswar logged a maximum of 29.9°C and a minimum of 10.9°C. Cuttack recorded 26.9°C as the maximum and 10.7°C as the minimum. Paralakhemundi registered the state’s highest maximum temperature at 32.0°C.

Most stations reported minimum temperatures 3–5°C below normal. Light fog was observed in Bhawanipatna, reducing visibility to 500–1000 meters, while other districts remained clear.

The Met department has advised residents to continue wearing warm clothing and exercise caution during night hours. Dry weather is expected to persist, though cold winds may still influence conditions in the coming days.
