A total of 27 Maoists surrendered before Jharkhand Police in Ranchi on Thursday in the presence of DGP Tadasha Mishra. The ultras, belonging to the banned CPI (Maoist), laid down arms under Operation Navjeevan.
Officials confirmed that the surrendered Maoists included seven sub-zonal commanders and six area commanders. Among them, Sagen Aangariya alias Dokol, wanted in 123 cases, and Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, wanted in 48 cases, were prominent figures. Five of the commanders carried rewards of ₹5 lakh each.
The surrendered cadres belonged to the group of Misir Besra, the last active politburo member of CPI (Maoist), who carries a bounty of ₹1 crore and operated in the Saranda and Kolhan regions. Security forces seized five INSAS rifles, nine SLR rifles, and 2,987 rounds of cartridges based on information provided by the Maoists.
Jharkhand Police reported that in 2026, 22 Maoists were killed, 44 arrested, and 29 surrendered. Officials appealed to remaining cadres to join the mainstream. CRPF IG Saket Singh urged those still active to shun violence and return to society.
Chaibasa SP Amit Renu said around 16 to 17 Maoists remain in Saranda forest, with security forces making efforts to trace Besra and his associate Asim Mandal, both carrying bounties of ₹1 crore.
DGP Mishra assured full rehabilitation support for the surrendered cadres, emphasising that combined efforts by police, CRPF, and Jharkhand Jaguar will continue to eliminate extremism in the state.
