A youth sustained critical injuries after miscreants opened fire on him at Kuanpal Chhak under Maniabandh Police Station in Cuttack district.
The victim, identified as Kalia Jena, was heading to a salon when four assailants arrived on two motorcycles and fired four rounds at him. Bullets struck his chest and leg, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals rushed Jena to the Maniabandh Medical Facility. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Police reached the scene and launched an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to identify the attackers. The motive remains unclear, though officials suspect previous enmity may have triggered the assault.
