A shocking incident unfolded in Khariar Road town of Nuapada district when a 35-year-old man attempted suicide by climbing a transformer.
The youth, identified as Chandan Kumar from Bihar, came in contact with an 11-kV electric line and sustained severe injuries.
Chandan had been living in a rented house with his wife. Reports suggest frequent quarrels between the couple, which led his wife to leave him. Distressed over the situation, Chandan climbed the transformer near a local structure on Saturday afternoon.
Electricity department staff rushed to the spot and disconnected the line to prevent further damage. Police led by IIC Pradeep Dharua and fire service personnel reached the site and rescued Chandan in critical condition. He was immediately shifted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors confirmed that large portions of his body suffered burns due to the electric shock.
Police began investigating the circumstances behind the incident, including details of the couple’s disputes and Chandan’s residence. Later in the evening, his relatives arrived in Nuapada and took him back to Bihar for further care.
