A disturbing incident unfolded in the Simulia police station area of Balasore district when a ninth-grade student was allegedly targeted in an attempted sexual assault by a local youth, identified as Prashant Samal from Antara village.
The incident occurred near the Antara canal embankment as the girl was returning home from tuition. According to reports, the accused attempted to assault the minor and threw her bicycle and books into the canal. Alert villagers intervened, rescuing the girl in a critical condition.
Infuriated by the act, the locals tied up the accused, beat him severely, and set his motorcycle ablaze before handing him over to the Simulia police.
The police promptly arrived at the scene, took the accused into custody, and initiated an investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and tension in the area, with residents demanding strict action against the perpetrator. Authorities are continuing their probe to ensure justice for the victim.
