Women’s Asia Cup: India Through to Final; Beat Thailand By 74 Runs

New Delhi: India rode on a quickfire 42 and a 3-wicket haul from Deepti Sharma to outclass Thailand and reach the Women’s Asia Cup final for the 8th successive time in the history of the tournament. India defeated Thailand by 74 runs, successfully defending a 148-run total in Sylhet on Thursday, October 13.

India will face the winner of the second semi-final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the final in Sylhet on Saturday.

India have reached the final of the Women’s Asia Cup in all 8 editions of the tournament, winning 7 titles. The Asian giants lost to Bangladesh in the previous edition in 2018 but avenged the defeat with a comprehensive win over Bangladesh in the group stage.

On Thursday, it was a dominant show from Indian bowlers as the spinners choked the Thailand batters from getting any momentum into their chase. Thailand were restricted to 74 for 9 in their quota of 20 overs. It was an improved performance from the group stage match wherein Thailand were bundled out for 37 in just 15.1 overs but it was not enough for the spirited cricketers as India had enough in the bank despite not pressing the accelerator much.
