A chilling murder case shocked Keonjhar district after police recovered the skeleton of a young woman 26 days after her killing.
Investigators alleged that her lover, Sangram, murdered her and buried the body in the Siddhamatha reserved forest.
Reports said Sangram suspected the woman of being involved with another man. On May 11, he allegedly killed her and carried the body on a motorcycle about five kilometres into the forest. He buried her remains in a pit and dumped her belongings, including a chunni, slippers, and a sharp weapon, in another pit to destroy evidence.
The victim’s family lodged a missing persons complaint after she failed to return home. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Sangram and uncovered the crime. A special magistrate and tehsildar supervised the recovery of the skeleton and seized the belongings along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
The gruesome discovery triggered outrage in the village. Residents and the victim’s family demanded strict punishment for the accused. Police continue to investigate the case to establish further details and motives.
