In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Odisha, a young woman from Bangiriposi was allegedly gang-raped by six men inside a van on the Udala-Balasore state highway. The perpetrators reportedly lured the victim with the promise of a job.
The incident occurred when the woman, hailing from the Bangiriposi police station area, was approached by two men who promised her employment in a company. They transported her approximately 80 kilometres from her home in a Tata Magic van.
Along the way, more men boarded the vehicle, raising the total number of assailants to six. On reaching a secluded stretch of the Udala-Balasore road, the men stopped the van and allegedly gang-raped the victim inside the vehicle.
When the woman screamed for help, the perpetrators, in a state of panic, pushed her out of the van and fled the scene. Local residents discovered the distressed woman and assisted her in returning home, where she recounted the horrific ordeal to her family.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Udala police station, and authorities have initiated an investigation to apprehend the culprits. “The truth will come to light after a thorough investigation,” a police official stated, emphasising that the case is being treated with utmost priority.
