A head-on collision between two bikes on National Highway 26 near Taragaon under Nabarangpur police limits left one dead and several injured.
Nandai Jani (26), a resident of Nabarangpur Municipality Colony, died in the crash. Her husband Mukund Jani (35) sustained serious injuries.
Mukund was traveling with Nandai, their 3-year-old son, and 7-year-old daughter toward Papadahandi. Another bike coming from the opposite direction struck them head-on.
Both Nandai and Mukund suffered critical injuries. Locals rushed them, along with the children, to Nabarangpur District Hospital.
Doctors found the children stable. Due to the couple’s condition, they recommended immediate transfer to Koraput Medical College.
Nandai died en route to Koraput, according to family sources. Mukund remains in critical condition under medical care.
Police reached the scene and began an investigation. The identity of the other bike riders remains unknown. Eyewitnesses said the other riders fled after sustaining minor injuries. Police are trying to trace them.
The accident shocked the local community. Residents demanded better traffic monitoring on the highway. Authorities have not confirmed if speed or negligence caused the crash. The investigation continues.
