Balasore: A man allegedly threw acid at his wife leaving her seriously injured at Bhimpur village under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore.
Three others including two children also sustained burn injuries while they intervened in the incident.
Accused Chandan Rana, a resident of Nayapatana in the district had married to the victim about two months ago. However, the woman had recently visited her paternal village and came to know that her husband had earlier married to another woman. She refused to turn up and live with Chandan.
The matter had also reached police station.
However, Chandan today came to her and asked her to come back. A war of words ensued between the two after the woman refused to live together.
Irked, Chandan hurled acid which he had brought with him.
She started screaming and her elder sister and two children tried to save her. They also faced the acid attack and got injured.
Family members immediately rushed the woman to Balasore district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, Chandan fled the spot before police reached there.
