The Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, Sambalpur, has implemented a mandatory uniform dress code for all first-year undergraduate students, effective from the 2025-26 academic session.
The directive, issued by the administration, aims to standardize student attire and enhance safety on campus.
Dress Code Details
The new policy mandates a specific uniform for both male and female students, while excluding postgraduate and PhD students. Key elements of the new dress code include:
- Male Students: Must wear a formal navy blue shirt and navy blue pants.
- Female Students: Have the option of wearing either a formal navy blue shirt and pants or a navy blue shalwar-kameez paired with a waistcoat.
- Color Scheme: All pants, shalwars, and waistcoats must be navy blue, while all shirts must be sky blue.
- Prohibited Items: The wearing of jeans and dupattas is strictly prohibited. The administration cited safety concerns as the reason for banning dupattas.
The university has advised students to arrange their uniforms and ensure compliance by the end of August 2025. The official notice specifies that the colors should closely match samples displayed on the university’s notice board. This is the first time in recent years that VSSUT has enforced a dress code for its undergraduates, and the administration has stated that non-compliance will lead to disciplinary action.
