Sundergarh: At least two women were killed while eight others sustained critical injuries following a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and ambulance.
According to reports, the incident was reported near Poigaon under Lahunipada PS in Sundergarh district.
While the identities of the deceased persons were yet to be ascertained, all injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital in Rourkela.
Meanwhile, police have reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident, said sources.
Earlier in the day, two cousins, including a minor girl were killed in a road accident near Barabati Chhak on NH 16 in Jajpur district.
According to reports, Ranjit (23) of Damodarpur village under Kuakhia police station, and Shubhra Sambhabna (15) were on their way back from Jarka, when an unidentified vehicle hit their scooter near Barabati Chhak.
While the minor girl died on the spot, Ranjit was rushed to a nearby hospital in Dharmasala in critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, he succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
