In a significant breakthrough, the Bhubaneswar police have dismantled a two-wheeler theft syndicate operating in the city. The Mancheswar Police Station arrested two habitual offenders, Dipu alias Trilochan Samantaray (26) and Malo alias Chiranjib Sethi (26), in connection with a theft case registered on May 29, 2025.
The duo, hailing from Rajnagar, Kendrapara, was involved in stealing multiple motorcycles and scooters across Bhubaneswar, using a master key to execute their crimes.
The case began when Anil Kumar Swain reported the theft of his Honda Activa scooter from his residence in Mangala Temple Lane, Nua Sahi, Rasulgarh. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). CCTV footage revealed Dipu’s involvement, leading to his arrest in Rajnagar with assistance from the local police. During interrogation, Dipu confessed to stealing the scooter and implicated his associate, Malo, who purchased the stolen vehicles for resale.
A subsequent raid resulted in Malo’s arrest, and the police recovered five stolen two-wheelers, including a TVS Apache RTR 160, Pulsar NS 125, Bullet 350 ES EFI, Honda Activa 6G, and Yamaha FZS, from their residences and a service centre.
Both accused have a history of criminal activities, with Dipu linked to 12 cases across multiple police stations and Malo involved in three cases in Mancheswar and Chandrasekharpur. They have been forwarded to court, and the investigation continues to trace other stolen vehicles and potential accomplices, the police said.
