Two minor girls were rescued on Saturday after they allegedly jumped into the Mahanadi River at Chadeipank village under Binka police station limits.
Reports said the girls leapt into the river under circumstances yet to be ascertained. On receiving information, a team of firefighters, assisted by a local fisherman, launched a swift rescue operation and managed to pull both girls out safely.
The rescued girls were immediately taken to the Binka Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after and have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. Further details are awaited.
