Heavy rains in Hyderabad claimed two lives on Tuesday when snapped electric wires electrocuted two men in Bandlaguda, Old City.
The victims, identified as Jaffer and Abu from Chandrayangutta, died instantly after coming into contact with live wires that had fallen on the main road.
The incident occurred when the duo stepped out of an auto-rickshaw and unknowingly walked onto the flooded road. Poor visibility and waterlogging concealed the danger. As they touched the wires, both suffered severe electric shocks and collapsed.
Local residents rushed forward, but the victims had already succumbed. Witnesses immediately alerted police and electricity officials. Police registered a case and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Officials from the Electricity Department visited the site and initiated a probe into how the wires snapped during the downpour. Authorities assured that accountability will be fixed and safety measures reinforced to prevent similar tragedies.
The electrocution in Hyderabad highlights the risks posed by damaged infrastructure during monsoon rains. Residents expressed concern over recurring accidents caused by exposed live wires and demanded urgent action to secure vulnerable areas.
