Balipatna: Two persons were critically injured in a blast at a firecracker unit at Jhinti Jainabad village under Balipatna police station on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The injured persons, who are yet to be identified, have been rescued and shifted to Capital Hospital.
Meanwhile, Balipatna police reached the spot and started an investigation to ascertain if the unit had a license for making firecrackers or if the unit was being illegally run.
According to the information, a man hailing from Bhubaneswar had been preparing firecrackers in a house near the cemetery on the banks of the Bhargavi river. However, this afternoon, hearing the sound of an explosion, some local people went to the spot and found two injured persons.
Sources said, the two persons, involved in making firecrackers arrows, sustained severe burn injuries in the explosion. However, no one could identify them as they were not locals.
On intimation, Balipatna fire & rescue personnel and Balipatna police arrived at the scene and rushed the victims to the hospital.
As per the latest reports, firefighters have extinguished the fire at the unit.
