At least 20 people have lost their lives and 18 others are injured following a severe head-on collision between a tipper truck and a state-run bus in the Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, on the morning of Monday, November 3, 2025.

The bus, belonging to the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (RTC) Tandur depot and carrying around 70 passengers, was en route to Hyderabad when it collided with a gravel-laden lorry travelling in the opposite direction near Mirzaguda village. According to police reports, the impact caused the lorry to topple onto the bus, with the gravel load trapping several passengers underneath.

Eyewitnesses described a distressing scene: passengers cried for help as local residents rushed in to assist with the rescue efforts. Among the deceased are the drivers of both vehicles, several women, and an infant aged ten months along with the baby’s mother.

Emergency responders deployed three excavators (JCBs) to clear debris and extract trapped passengers. The injured have been transported to Chevella Government Hospital, with critical cases referred to Hyderabad hospitals for advanced treatment. Officials caution that the death toll may rise further, as many injured remain in serious condition.

Traffic on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway has come to a standstill following the accident, leading to long vehicle queues on the Chevella–Vikarabad route.

In response to the tragedy, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered immediate mobilisation of all relevant departments and officials to support rescue and relief operations. He directed that all injured persons be transferred to Hyderabad promptly, and tasked senior officials — including Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy — to personally oversee the measures, ensuring ambulances, emergency medical teams and paramedics are on standby.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver may have lost control due to overspeeding, resulting in the catastrophic collision. Authorities continue to examine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
