In a historic announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared a Rs 51 crore cash prize for the Indian women’s cricket team following their triumph in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Dr DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, to clinch their first-ever World Cup title.

The BCCI’s reward exceeds the ICC’s prize money of USD 4.48 million (Rs 39.78 crore), making it one of the highest cash awards ever given to a women’s cricket team.

BCCI’s Gesture of Appreciation

Speaking to ANI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Rs 51 crore amount will be distributed among the players, selectors, and support staff, led by head coach Amol Muzumdar.

“BCCI is elated with the team’s remarkable performance. Without touching the ICC’s prize pool, we have decided to reward the entire contingent with ₹51 crore,” said Saikia.
He also acknowledged BCCI secretary and ICC chair Jay Shah for supporting the increase in the ICC Women’s World Cup prize fund by nearly 300% just a month before the tournament.

India’s Dominant Final Performance

India’s victory was built on an all-round display of skill and composure. After South Africa chose to bowl first, India posted a competitive 298 runs, powered by Shafali Verma’s 87-run knock.

In reply, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt struck a brilliant century, but it wasn’t enough. Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul and Shafali’s two crucial breakthroughs sealed a famous 52-run win for India.

Shafali was named Player of the Match for her all-round heroics, while the team’s triumph was celebrated nationwide as a landmark moment for Indian women’s cricket — drawing parallels to the men’s 1983 World Cup win.
