Australia’s Travis Head etched his name into the World Test Championship (WTC) history books by becoming the first player to secure 10 Man of the Match awards in the competition.

His pivotal twin half-centuries — 59 in the first innings and 61 in the second — anchored Australia’s commanding 159-run win over West Indies in the first Test at Bridgetown.

On a pitch offering plenty to the bowlers, Head’s resilience proved decisive. Australia stumbled to 180 in their first innings but bounced back by dismissing the West Indies for 190. Head’s second-innings knock was particularly vital, stabilising the team from a shaky 61-4 alongside partnerships with Beau Webster (63) and Alex Carey (65), helping post a daunting 310. West Indies crumbled to 141 in pursuit, handing Australia a 1-0 lead in the series.

Head’s contributions shine even brighter when set against the backdrop of WTC legends — surpassing Ben Stokes and Joe Root, who each have five Man of the Match accolades. With 3,199 runs in 50 WTC matches and now part of the elite 400 fours club, Head’s consistency stands out.

“It was all about communication and composure,” said Head post-match. “Conditions were tough, but we stuck to the plan and built partnerships at critical moments.”

With this win, Australia continues to assert dominance in the ongoing WTC cycle, and Head’s star just keeps rising.
