As India celebrates Statistics Day 2025, the National Statistical Office (NSO) marked a watershed moment in its digital transformation journey with a strong pledge to enhance accessibility, innovation, and reliability in official statistics.

Launched a year ago, the flagship eSankhyiki portal now houses over 135 million records, transforming public access to social and economic data.

The NSO unveiled several digital assets in the past year, including the GoIStats mobile app, public-facing dashboards for critical surveys, and dedicated portals for the National Statistical Commission and the National Statistical System Training Academy. These platforms are tailored to bolster transparency and empower stakeholders—researchers, citizens, and policymakers alike.

Demonstrating future-readiness, MOSPI initiated seven technological use cases, completing three proof-of-concept pilots and joining global platforms like the UN Committee of Experts on Big Data. It even showcased its GenAI applications at the UNECE Conference, highlighting India’s leadership in statistical modernisation.

Cybersecurity, a central pillar of this transformation, saw the appointment of a Chief Information Security Officer and engagement of expert agencies to safeguard national data assets. The strategy follows a phased model, with the next leg aimed at overhauling data processing systems to deliver more timely insights.

As India marches toward its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, MOSPI reaffirmed its resolve: to deliver trustworthy, timely, and tech-driven statistics that inform governance, development, and every citizen’s right to know.
