Bhubaneswar: Special Vigilance Courts in Cuttack, Keonjhar and Phulbani today convicted three government functionaries in trap and corruption cases registered against them by Odisha Vigilance.
In the first case, Vigilance Special Judge, Cuttack convicted Dipti Ranjan Mohapatra, former ASI of Garoi Out-post under Nuagaon PS in Jagatsinghpur, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant for expediting the investigation of a case of which ASI Mohapatra was the investigation officer.
The court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000. In default of payment of the fine, the convict shall undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act, 1988, the court ruled.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Dipti Ranjan Mohapatra, ASI of Police, attached to Court Sub-Inspector under JMFC, Paradeep, Dist-Jagatsinghpur following his conviction.
Md. Zahid Hussain, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Cuttack Division investigated the case and Rakesh Sahu, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, Cuttack conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
In the second case, Vigilance Special Judge, Keonjhar convicted Pramod Kumar Panda, former GPTA of Keonjhar Sadar Block, who has been already disengaged from service, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.11,000 from a complainant in connection with the execution of a cement concrete road work and for further allotment of a new work.
The Court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and pay a fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year more for the offence U/s 7 PC Amendment Act,2018.
Smt. Hemamalini Nayak, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Balasore Division, had investigated the case and Sri Debadutta Biswal, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, Keonjhar conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
In the third case, Vigilance Special Judge, Phulbani convicted Bhuban Mohan Dash, Ex-In-charge Area Manager, MARKFED, Boudh who has been dismissed from service, for misappropriation of Rs.9.66 Lakh in respect of procurement of Niger and Turmeric seeds.
The court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and a fine of Rs.10,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 409 IPC.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and payment of a fine of Rs.10,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act,1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently. Further, the convict Bhuban Mohan Dash was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Dola Govinda Parida, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Berhampur Division, had investigated the case and V.V. Ramdas, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
