New Delhi: As India scripted history in the Thomas Uber Cup 2022 defeating 14-time Champions Indonesia in Bangkok on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian badminton team.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said;
“The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons.”
Lakshya Sen and the doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty came back from a game deficit to win their respective matches.
The crowd cheered with joy as India won the first two matches and set up an exciting game between Kidambi Srikanth and Jonathan Christie.
Srikanth smashed his way through the first game, defeating Christie 21-15 in a stunning win. While the match became much nervy in the second game, Srikanth held his nerve to seal the deal for India. He took the tie to 23-21, but kept his calm to give India a historic win at the prestigious competition.
