To ensure thorough investigations and effective justice delivery, the Odisha government has mandated that only SP-ranked officers will oversee cases related to mob lynching, terrorism, and organised crime.
During a recent high-level review meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi emphasised the importance of streamlining legal processes through digital integration. He introduced initiatives such as e-FIRs, e-summons, and e-evidence to enhance efficiency in criminal investigations.
The CM also directed Odisha police to accept zero FIRs from complainants, regardless of jurisdiction, warning that officers refusing to comply would face disciplinary action. Plans to connect jails, hospitals, forensic labs, and courts via video conferencing were also discussed, aiming to simplify the witness testimony process.
To strengthen forensic capabilities, the government announced the deployment of 32 advanced mobile forensic vans. Additionally, nearly all police personnel have been trained under new criminal laws, and extensive efforts are underway to upgrade forensic labs and jail department facilities.
With newly appointed personnel in the prosecution and forensic teams, Odisha aims to accelerate justice delivery. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Home Department ACS Satyabrata Sahu.
