Team India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen in Germany.
Taking to social media, the star batter shared a post-operative picture from the hospital, stating:
“Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”
This marks the second such surgery for the Mumbaikar in just over a year—his first sports hernia operation took place in Munich in January 2024, followed by ankle surgery in December 2023.
Currently, the Indian team is on a tour of England for a five-match Test series, to be followed by an ODI and T20I series in Bangladesh in August. With the T20I series scheduled from August 26 to 31, Suryakumar’s availability remains uncertain, as the typical recovery time post-hernia surgery ranges from 6 to 12 weeks.
Before this surgery, SKY last played in IPL 2025, where he was in sublime form, scoring 717 runs in 16 innings, including five half-centuries for the Mumbai Indians. He also participated briefly in the Mumbai T20 League.
Looking ahead, the next major assignment for Suryakumar and Team India will be the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March, featuring 20 teams. SKY is set to lead India in the marquee tournament, making his recovery and return to full fitness crucial in the coming months.
Suryakumar has been a key figure in the Mumbai Indians setup since 2018, although he made his IPL debut for the franchise in 2012 before spending four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders.
