Malkangiri: A woman Naxal, who had surrendered before the police a few days ago, reportedly committed suicide in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, bordering Malkangiri district.
Many Naxals are surrendering to the “Lone Varratu” campaign launched by the Chhattisgarh police. Influenced by the operation, a woman Naxal, Pande Kawasi, a member of the CNM Maoist outfit, surrendered to the police on the 19th of this month. After surrendering, she was staying with some other surrendered woman Naxal in the Shantikunj police line.
She went out of her room last night and hanged herself with a ‘dupatta inside the bathroom. It was not immediately clear why the surrendered Naxalite woman died, Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava, said and added that the post-mortem has been conducted at the district hospital.
So far, 300 Naxals have surrendered in Chhattisgarh under the “Lone Varratu” campaign.
SP Abhishek Pallava said he had written to the Dantewada collector requesting him to order a magisterial probe into the incident. He added that the family member of the deceased woman were given assistance of Rs 50,000.
Preliminary investigations, however, revealed that Pandey Kabashi did not want to go home. The villagers and family members repeatedly pressured her to return home.
