Jharsuguda Police conducted a surprise raid at the District Jail today and seized narcotics along with prohibited articles from the prison premises.
Superintendent of Police led the operation, deploying a special team to thoroughly search barracks, wards, common areas, beds, toilets, and inmate belongings. Officers recovered bidis, gutkha sachets, tobacco products, matchboxes, razor blades, a lighter, ganja, narcotic pills, and other contraband materials. All items were confiscated immediately.
The inspection also reviewed security arrangements, including CCTV coverage, visitor monitoring, and inmate management systems. The SP directed jail authorities to strengthen security measures and ensure strict compliance with prison rules.
Sources revealed that the raid followed inputs about narcotics and banned items entering the jail, allegedly with the help of some staff members. Police confirmed that a detailed inquiry will investigate how the substances were smuggled inside despite existing protocols.
The SP stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved, whether inmates, staff, or outsiders. Jharsuguda Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of security in correctional institutions and preventing unlawful activities inside prison walls.
