The central government on Monday notified the appointment of three sitting High Court Chief Justices as judges of the Supreme Court of India.
According to reports, the appointments have been made by the President of India exercising powers conferred under the Constitution. The formal elevations follow recent recommendations put forward by the Supreme Court Collegium.
The three distinguished jurists elevated to the apex court are:
- Justice Sunita Agarwal – Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court
- Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya – Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court
- Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh – Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court
With these high-profile additions, the Supreme Court moves closer to operating at full strength, bolstering its bench with experienced judicial leadership drawn from multiple high courts across the country.
