The Supreme Court of India has directed the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to convene a general body meeting within four weeks to formally adopt its new constitution, which has been under review since 2017.
The apex court also recognized the election of the current office bearers, led by AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey, and ruled that fresh elections are not required. Chaubey and his executive committee will continue their tenure until the next scheduled polls in 2026.
This ruling comes amid pressure from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which had warned of a potential suspension if the AIFF failed to ratify its constitution by October 30, 2025. The final draft of the constitution was submitted to the court in July 2022, marking a long-awaited step toward reforming the federation’s governance structure.
The Supreme Court’s directive is expected to bring clarity and stability to Indian football administration, ensuring compliance with international standards and safeguarding India’s participation in global tournaments.
